What a Reverb Calculator Calculates

A reverb calculator turns musical tempo into exact time values. Enter a BPM, choose a note-based total length and pre-delay, and the tool calculates the remaining decay. The three values stay connected: pre-delay plus decay always equals the selected total reverb time.

The same BPM also drives the note table. It lists whole notes through 128th notes in straight, dotted, and triplet timing, so you can compare 24 millisecond values without calculating each division separately.

The reverb calculator builds one complete timing reference from the tempo and the two musical divisions that define the result.

The calculator uses one relationship throughout: decay equals total time minus pre-delay. If a chosen pre-delay exceeds the total, it is capped at the total length.

Convert BPM to Reverb Time

The reverb calculator starts with a quarter note: divide 60,000 milliseconds by the BPM. At 120 BPM, a quarter note is 500 ms, a half note is 1 second, and a whole note is 2 seconds.

Dotted and triplet values come from the same straight duration. Multiply by 1.5 for a dotted note or by two-thirds for a triplet. At 120 BPM, that makes a dotted quarter 750 ms and a quarter-note triplet about 333.3 ms.

Choose a Tempo-Synced Pre-Delay

Pre-delay is the interval between the dry event and the start of the calculated decay. Choose Off or a note value from a 128th note through a dotted sixteenth note, and the reverb calculator converts that selection to milliseconds at the current BPM.

At 120 BPM, a straight 1/32 note is 62.5 ms, a 1/64 note is 31.25 ms, and a 1/32 triplet is about 41.67 ms. Compare the options as timing references, then listen for the amount of separation that fits the source.

Changing pre-delay does not extend the selected total. The tool subtracts the gap from the total time and shows the remainder as decay, so all three readouts stay connected.
